ILM Full Face Motorcycle Helmet 953 PRO Review

After putting several hundred miles on the ILM Bluetooth Integrated Modular Flip-Up Helmet, I can say this helmet tries to do a lot — and mostly succeeds, especially for the price. I’ve used premium helmets with external comms and cheaper Amazon modular, so I went into this one slightly skeptical. After daily commuting, weekend rides, and some longer stretches around 70–75 mph, I got a pretty clear picture of where it shines and where it falls short.

Key Features:

  • Adjustable ventilation system
  • Fully washable microfiber liner
  • Modular flip-up full-face design
  • Bluetooth technology 3.0 with intercom up to 1680 ft
  • Runs one size small due to Bluetooth module

First impressions were positive. The shell feels solid, not flimsy, and the modular mechanism inspires confidence. The padding felt plush right out of the box and didn’t need much break-in time. In my opinion, comfort is one of this helmet’s strongest points, especially considering the built-in Bluetooth hardware.

The integrated Bluetooth is clearly aimed at convenience. Not having to mount a separate unit is great, and for basic music, calls, and GPS prompts, it does the job. That said, it’s not a Cardo or Sena replacement — and ILM isn’t pretending it is.

Our Verdict

From my perspective, the ILM bluetooth modular helmet is a smart buy if you’re on a budget and want features without extra installs. It’s not perfect, and the Bluetooth won’t satisfy audiophiles, but as an all-in-one commuting and casual touring helmet, it punches well above its price. If you manage expectations, it’s genuinely hard to beat for the money.

Our Score

Pros

  • Excellent value for money: In my opinion, this is where the helmet wins. You get modular design, Bluetooth, sun visor, and DOT safety at a price where most brands charge extra for everything.
  • Comfortable for long rides: I’ve done 3–4 hour rides without pressure points. The liner breathes well, and the helmet doesn’t feel cheap on your head.
  • Quiet for a budget modular: Wind noise is lower than expected. In my experience, it’s noticeably quieter than many entry-level modular helmets.
  • Good field of view: The visor offers clear optics and wide peripheral vision, which I really appreciated in traffic.

Cons

  • Bluetooth quality is inconsistent: This is the biggest drawback. Some units work great, others suffer from distortion, static, or reconnecting issues. In my opinion, quality control is hit or miss.
  • Speaker sound lacks bass: Loud, yes. Rich sound? No. Highs can be sharp, and bass is basically nonexistent.
  • Ventilation could be better: The chin vent feels small. I experienced visor fogging until I cracked it open slightly.
